The way to identify
Healeys is simple and actually the only way, because Healeys change
model not necessarily at year end so year doesn't denote a car's
model. It works like this:
BN1, 4 cyl 100, 3 speed transmission w/overdrive, factory
2 seat roadster, fan grille, drum front brakes
BN2, 4 cyl 100, 4 speed transmission w/overdrive, 2 seat
roadster, fan grille, drum front brakes
BN4, 6 cyl 100, 4 speed transmission with or without overdrive,
4 seat roadster, horizontal grille, drum front brakes
BN6, 6 cyl 100, 4 speed transmission with or without overdrive,
2 seat roadster, horizontal grille, drum front brakes
BT7, 6 cyl 3000 cc, 4 speed side shift transmission with
or without overdrive, 4 seat roadster, horizontal grille,
disc front brakes
BN7, 6 cyl 3000cc, 4 speed side shift transmission with or
without overdrive, 2 seat roadster, horizontal grille, disk
front brakes
BT7 MkII, 6 cyl 3000 cc, 4 speed side shift changing to top
shift transmission with or without overdrive, 4 seat roadster,
vertical grille, disk front brakes, Tri-carb standard (only BT7MKII
and BN7MKII)
BN7 MkII, 6 cyl 3000 cc, 4 speed side shift changing to top
shift transmission with or without overdrive, 2 seat roadster,
vertical grille, disk front brakes, Tri-carb standard (only BT7MKII

BJ7 MkII, 6 cyl 3000 cc, 4 speed top shift transmission w/
overdrive, 4 seat convertible w/roll up windows, vertical grille,
disk front brakes, (2) 1 3/4" carbs
BJ8 MkIII, 6 cyl 3000 cc, 4 speed top shift transmission with
or without overdrive, 4 seat convertible w/roll up windows, vertical
grille, disk front brakes, (2) 2" carbs, wood dash face and
console, vinyl embossed seat with leather optional
BJ8 MkIII Phase II, same as BJ8 MKIII, except rear suspension
raised about 2 inches and the addition of rear radius arms on suspension
