The louvers used here are supplied
from the usual part supplier, such as Victoria British.
After making the flat iron surround, using 1/4" X 1/2" stock that fit around the louver, (see pictures 1-5), you will need to lay it on the fender (picture 6). You will notice the fender is not flat. You will need to shape the surround until it does lay flat, so you do not distort the fender when you weld it in (see pictures 11-17). Cut the opening 2" down from the upper fender line and 2" out from the wheel opening fender line (see pictures 7-10). This may vary depending upon the louver used. Make certain that they do not hit the foot boxes, (see pictures 24-25), when installed. It was necessary to install them before mounting the fenders. The pictures showing the stud pertruding for the surround, (pictures 19-20), are on the bottom pointing down. This will allow the louver to be mounted by drilling (2) holes in the edge that will go behind the surround to slip over the studs. The top will have sheet metal screws going upward through the iron surround into the louver. (see picture 21). |
